The proposal made by SriLankan Airlines to lease 21 air bus aircraft was postponed by three months, COPE Chairman Charitha Herath informed Parliament today.
He said the decision was made after SriLankan Airlines was summoned before the Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) recently.
Meanwhile, Former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said it was useless to lease aircraft before a final decision is made about the future of the SriLankan Airlines.
"We need to decide whether to continue sell or close down SriLankan Airlines before making a decision to lease the aircraft. Otherwise, we will be at fault," he said. (Ajith Siriwardana and Yohan Perera)

However, it is dangerous to fly the aging aircraft which needs to be replaced with somewhat fuel efficient ones. But all deals must be transparent.

For once, I totally agree with Ranil. He was spot on. How long is SL going to keep these while elephants like SL Airlines, CEB, Petroleum Corp, Water Board, Colombo harbour running at massive losses? You can wait till cows come home. These over staffed and corruption filled institutions are a massive reason why SL is where it is. These institutions have more staff than whole South Asia combined.

Is that what we need right now? No petrol or diesel to drive at least a few kilometres, these guys are talking about flying aircraft.

British airways belongs to IAG group not the Govt. Sell it or close it down but keep the catering, engineering, ground handling etc,lot of major air lines touching down anyway, improve the domestic

This should be postponed in view of a new govt whenever it be.

Must appoint MR's brother-in- law(Shiranthi's brother) as Chairman of Sri Lankan Airlines.
