Through an extraordinary gazette notification, the Liquefied Petroleum (LP) Gas has been made an essential commodity. The gazette notification was issued by the Trade, Commerce and Food Security Minister Nalin Fernando yesterday.

The decision was made considering this cooking fuel is essential to the existence of the general public, after having consulted the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA), and this order prescribed under “specified goods” category under Section 18 of the CAA, No. 09 of 2003 (Amended).
