Chairman of Kinniya Urban Council who is a relative of SLMC MP Imran Maharoof should be removed from his post as he had illegally given permission to run a ferry across the Kinya lagoon, State Minister Nimal Lansa told Parliament today.

State Minister Lansa who made an announcement in the House said the Chairman of Kinniya urban council is a relative of MP Maharoof while the businessman who has been allowed to run the ferry service is a member of SLMC and an associate of Mr. Maharoof.

"It is they who are responsible for the ferry accident," the State Minister stressed.

“We request the Governor of Eastern Province to remove  the Chairman of Kinniya Urban Council from his post immediately," Lansa said.

He assured that a new bridge will be constructed across Kinniya lagoon though it would take some time. “One cannot construct a bridge just like baking a hopper as it is a long process. The construction will continue,” he added. (Yohan Perera and Ajith Siriwardana)

He should be arrested along with the MP. Why evade arrest of the BIG fish. Thrashing his house is wrong. The minister who is in charge of this development should be arrested too or should step down as well.
