The Central Committee of Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) has decided to suspend the ongoing strike action with immediate effect considering three factors, GMOA Assistant Secretary Dr Samantha Ananda said.

He told Daily Mirror that they had received a letter from the Health Ministry where they had admitted that something wrong had taken place from their side.

However, the Health Ministry had not taken measures to rectify those mistakes as yet.

"We decided to suspend the strike for them to take time and address our demands. Secondly, it’s a great opportunity for us to educate people and relevant stakeholders about our demands,” he stated.

He also said that one of the other reasons to suspend the strike action was due to the Christmas season.

However, Dr Ananda said a crucial meeting would be held on January 03, 2022 to discuss further course of action pertaining to the trade union action.

They resorted to a trade union action on Tuesday (21) over several demands and against the arbitrary move by Secretary to the Ministry of Health to grant post-internship appointments. (Sheain Fernandopulle)

No point giving excuses for suspending the strike. You people (except those qualified overseas) do not owe anything to anybody because you had a free education at the expence of the poor of this country.
