Following the discussion between the National Transport Commission (NTC) officials and the private bus owners regarding the revision of bus fares, the bus owners behaved violently and threatened the NTC officials with death.
The police said death threats have been made at the NTC officials following talks on the revision of bus fares.
It was reported that the bus owners had threatened to kill and verbally abused the NTC staff over the phone.
A complaint in this regard was made to the Narahenpita police by the NTC Chairman and Director General.
The Transport, Highways and Mass Media Minister Bandula Gunawardena has instructed the Ministry Secretary R.W. Pemasiri to conduct an internal investigation into this incident and take legal action against the bus owners who obstructed the duties of the Commission officials. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)

This is where the President MUST step in and neutralise these threats as they potentially harm his credibility as well. It must be done ASAP. MM

Private bus owners have it too easy... all complaints holding country to ransom. They want to make cost for public go up. Time to re-nationalist all the bus services

In any country “Bus Drivers and Taxi Divers” come from the WORKING CLASSES as such they are prone to violence. That is why these GENTLEMEN have to be underpinned to a national structure to keep them maintain civility in their interactions with passengers and others. We have to nationalise the buses and semi-nationalise all the taxis.

Someone was crying about LPG and people dying without it to cook food- now that it's available in excess, no sound! People were crying of being unable to go to a hospital because of no fuel - now that it's available due to a 'system change' , no sound! This will go on. Unless everything is given on a platter free of charge - our nation will cry!

If the Ceylon transport board have sufficient busses to cover the routes these private buses are not not required. There will be less accidents and unruly behavior on the roads
