A cabinet proposal to be presented requesting permission to import electric vehicles for the migrant workers who send money to Sri Lanka through legal channels, Labour and Foreign Employment Minister Manusha Nanayakkara said.
He said the facility will be granted for the migrant workers depending on the amount of money they send to the country.
As vehicle imports are banned at present, the licence to import these electric vehicles will be issued only to migrant workers who send money using legal channels and through the banking network.
He said while participating in a program to provide employment opportunities introduced by the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE), a new charging facility will also be introduced for charging and re-charging those vehicles with solar energy outside the main power system. Appears he's also talking like those other morons in Parliament- All what the migrant workers want is food for their kith and kin suffering here and not electric cars that will eventually stop running at the whim and fancy of the CEB!

What a stupid decision. What ever money sent by them to their families are used for the daily expenses with this high cost of living and cannot save to by electric cars.

Rewarded for their dedication and hard work. See that it does not end with a racket or fraud or even interference by anyone. They should not be kept waiting for months/years to block their legitimate claims by other interested parties influence by rank rotten action.

This will never happen. Gov has no vision to reduce fuel usage and increase electric vehicle in numbers. Thats why they banned importing EVs earlier. SL will end up in a huge problem in 2060s when oil is over. With these stupid politicians we dont have a future. Better move to other country.
