The Government has de-listed some Tamil diaspora groups and individuals.
Among those de-listed are the Global Tamil Forum, an influential diaspora group based in the UK.
The British Tamil Forum and the Canadian Tamil Congress are also among those de-listed.
The de-listing was carried out through an Extraordinary Gazette issued by the Ministry of Defence.
The Mahinda Rajapaksa Government and later the Gotabaya Rajapaksa administration had banned the Tamil groups.
The ‘Yahapalanaya’ Government had lifted the ban on some diaspora groups.(Easwaran Rutnam)

seems like Ranil needs Tamil support for recent crisis and future election ?
Former CID Inspector Saturday, 13 August 2022 04:24 PM
Lift the ban on all Tamil groups except the Catholic group and another one connected to Indian intelligence. These two Tamil groups are very dangerous Trojan Horses to be allowed into Sri Lanka.
Karalasingam Sivalingam Saturday, 13 August 2022 05:04 PM
Good move to up lift ban on these groups, which will pave the way to attract foreign investment, tourism, inflow of dollars etc;. Rajapakasa's anti-racial era is over.
Ram Saturday, 13 August 2022 05:11 PM
Good move to attempt some unity with our Tamil brothers
Justice prevails Saturday, 13 August 2022 05:15 PM
Sanity prevails. What did the chauvinistic government benefit by banning the diaspora.? I presume satisfied their ego and power! We all have to remember there are two languages, major two religions, two cultures, two ethnicity, two traditional living areas for centuries.
Can you explain reasons Saturday, 13 August 2022 05:32 PM
What's the reasons for this? In the UK, and Canda the Tamil diaspora were putting pressure on their respective governments to ensure Sri Lanka military spending majorly cut back for IMF loan. Maybe that's it, I can only guess.

Sensible move to allow these groups and individuals to come home. They can contribute much to the peace process and to economic development.

Traitor ranil on the path to sell off part of the country to norwegians and terrorists. Who wants enemies when there are friends like these snakes.
Charles Rush Sunday, 14 August 2022 05:23 AM
It’s pay back time for RANIL. They are ALL queuing up for their pound of flesh- votes.

I could go to the UK my second home(dual with UK and SL) and speak to the Global/UK Tamil Forums and seek their assistance to to salvage the Lankan Economic Quagmire. Out TAMIL BRETHREN have a Wealth fund of about US$10 Billion and could spare a dime for their Homeland in the Peninsula. They are all my brothers/sisters., and they know me.

Another chink on the wall…a small but a definitive, chip on the Sinhala Buddhist jingoism that many would argue was the bane for progressive Sri Lanka, the ultimate reason (me including believe) for todays bankrupt Sri Lanka. 6.9 million bought in to this ideology, where we put down Christians, Muslims and for the longest the Tamils. And we elected officials only if they subscribed to this racist bull**. Starting with SWRD Bandaranaike (sadly an Oxford educated racist, who introduced Sinhala only language policy, 1956) it was downhill for mother Lanka. See where we are since 1956, beginning of Sinhala Buddhist chauvinism? Bankrupt, part of the country sold to China, another to India. And a 244 legislator elected by the 6.9 filled with corrupt, racist goons, even murderers and at least 95 who have not even a grade 10. Aragalaya was a moment when many saw, me including, a light that racism was over, where we can have one dream, as one nation. Is this news today towards that.
Punchi Sunday, 14 August 2022 09:42 AM
The only reason is to lull the Tamil Diaspora from lobbying hard against Lanka in the IMF, World Bank, UNHRC and other international forums. Maybe also to encourage further donations of food etc from Tamil Nadu
Culture Sunday, 14 August 2022 10:10 AM
@ venom- what do you mean by national security? Are you afraid that Tamils going to swallow SL and digest it. The term national security is between country to country such as Russia and Ukraine. Not between Sinhala and Tamil. Sinhala and Tamil are within SL with two regions of traditional living areas, cultures, religions, types of foods and dresses.
Now Catholic Sunday, 14 August 2022 06:28 PM
@Former CID Inspector Why are you bringing religion into it. Why are you against Catholics? Just because only Buddism is in the constitution as need to protected this is no right to persecute persons of other religions. Even when they are previously Buddists.
Friend of bond holder Sunday, 14 August 2022 06:39 PM
@Trevor.Jayetileke Dear Sir, I am sure the Tamil diaspora would not want their wealth to be lost to them like what happened to the bond holders of the 65 billion US dollars, that Sri Lanka defaulted on. There were pension funds in the US, like our EPF/ETF which invested in Sri Lanka dollar bonds, who now have to tell their retirees the sad news too.
Lokku Pathirane Sunday, 14 August 2022 10:20 PM
The Tamils will never given self governance as long as racists elements are in the government. Tamils are not asking separate state. The majority should accept this and allow them to look after their own places. There is nothing wrong in that. For the past 74 years Sinhala politicians did their business on Tamils. Enough is enough . What we need now is an understanding with minority.
Carlo Dissanayake Tuesday, 16 August 2022 10:29 PM
Releasing all those LTTE groups in custody may be a good idea only if the Tamil leaders, the Tamil Diaspora and their supporters refrain from demanding a Separate State and agree to live together amicably as one Sri Lankan family and not resort to war.
