Adani Green Energy was issued provisional approval for two wind projects of 286MW in Mannar and 234MW in Pooneryn for an investment of over US$500 million, Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera said.

He said this while addressing the officials of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) and Sustainable Development Authority today to discuss the progress of renewable energy projects.

The Minister said that 21 of the 46 projects that were delayed due to CEB Act amendments will enter into Private Partnership (PP) agreements next week.

26 renewable proposals were given provisional approval to be expedited with grid clearance and transmission plans. Other proposals will be evaluated within 30 days, according to the minister. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)

Indians operating in Northern Sri Lanka is of no concern of anybody but Chinese operating in Northern Sri Lanka is an “international crisis”. Are the Tamils in the North being treated as brainless zombies by the Indians and the Americans ?

Jaffna Resident Tuesday, 16 August 2022 10:50 PM

Majority of the Jaffna Tamils resent that Indians are being given the government contracts for projects in the North. Our bottom line is we don’t want Indians in our midst in the North.

Good. At least something brining revenue to the country. We need to monetize and make use of our assets.

Despite approval given by GOSL is Adani prepared to work on behalf of India? Especially when successive SL government's keep stabbing India on its back when interest of China compete.

Lecturer, Jaffna University Wednesday, 17 August 2022 04:17 AM

Originally a Chinese private company was awarded the contract and they started the work in Jaffna. Indians immediately protested that their national security was being compromised by the Chinese presence in Jaffna, this resulted in Sri Lankan government terminating the Chined contract and awarding it to the Indians. By threats and intimidations the Indians have achieved their objectives. But the Jaffna youths are not happy!!!!!!!

286 MW 234 MW = 520 MW, which should reduce the dependence on fossil fuel very much. Will the reduction in cost lead to reduction of electricity tariff?

    SM Wednesday, 17 August 2022 08:53 AM

Great to see progress in the country made be commercially successful private sector companies and businessmen who know how to make economically viable investment.

These projects are akin to current situation to reduce dependency on fuel import, when we are starving without dollars. .

It was on news long time ago. Do not try to take unnecessary credit for what someone else initiated and part of the process.

Indians are further corrupting our politicians by bribing them to “ to win contracts to build projects using their third rate Indian technology and to sell poor quality products “.

Retired Station Master , 35 years in the railway department Wednesday, 17 August 2022 11:52 AM

Our railway tracks and railway bridges were built by the British. And our long distance locomotives were mainly Canadian, popularly called the Canadian Engines. All were doing well and served the Sri Lankan travellers for over 50 years. Now, after we have “surrendered” our railway infrastructure to India, see how many problems we are facing now. To start with look at the railway bridges the Indians had built in the northern line, so many of them had collapsed within just five years of building them.

It's to "White Wash" Adani environmental calamity and rort the carbon credit scheme at the expense of SL. Adani Group, kickstarted one of the most controversial and politically divisive resource projects in Australia's history – the Carmichael coalmine

Once the sun rays land on the earth, once the wind blows and passes by, it is gone and lost forever. If anyone can intervene and harvest it and convert it to something useful like energy why not allow them to do it? Does it matter from where they are? Else it would be like the proverbial 'dog in the manger'. If no one else is willing and resourceful to harvest nature's gifts, let anyone from anywhere harvest it and make something out of it. If the country can benefit in some way in the process that would be great.

The much maligned Indians are systematically making inroads into Sri Lanka and it's assets in the pretext of being friends. Third grade Indian technology will drag this country to a junkyard soon.

Not sure of this contractor. Hope the CEB mafia has approved
