The government is to appoint 30 state ministers before the formation of the next Cabinet, a political source said .

It will happen as per a request by Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) which is the main party that backs President Ranil Wickremesinghe.

The SLPP MPs who served as state ministers in the previous government met the president recently to discuss the appointment of state ministers of the new government.

The SLPP has asked for the appointment of 40 of them . However, the president is keen to appoint only 30.

According to the informed source, the appointment of state ministers will take place either next week or during the first week of September.

A SLPP MP who attended the meeting said his party discussed the appointment of heads of district development coordinating committees. (Kelum Bandara)

This is one of THE WORST things anyone in his/her right mind can do at this juncture! Do NOT appoint ANY State Ministers. Get the blooming Ministries to do the work! This will herald the downfall of present President if he keeps appointing State Ministers. Sri Lanka does NOT need nor can she afford to pay these humbugs! Please do NOT do it.MM

I think the Pohottuwa is in a state of hysteria to insist such large number of appointments at public expense when some of our own mothers are surving on a diet of roasted jack seeds. IMF, WB and ADB please take note of the mandatory thrift levels that must be imposed before any discussions on financial assistance.

After the appointment of 30 State Ministers, can expect Smoke

Creditors would see this as mismanagement Friday, 26 August 2022 03:16 PM

I wonder how much the creditors might take note of this. IMF is doesn't really watch about internal maters, and can be hoodwinked by temporary cuts and rises just before the funds are released. That said creditors look deeper about the refusal to payback, and if there is corruption which causes them not to get their full funds back. So many state ministers, oh, your country has no money, but allows for lavish posts for so many MP. Then they may play hard ball. I know most business people, seeing a company if it behaved like this would be infuriated.
