About 16% of students and 26% of teachers were present in schools on the first day and resumed their teaching activities, Education Ministry Secretary Prof. Kapila Perera said.
He told the Daliy Mirror that 7% of the teachers and students were present in the Western Province.
"39% of students and 45% of teachers in the northern and eastern provinces were present. The remaining provinces had 15% and 18% of students and teachers in schools respectively, " he said.
"No issues were reported after the opening of schools, he added. Even though the certain teachers and principals' trade unions wanted to boycott the schools, most of them wanted to come to school and continue with their teaching activities physically than online, "Prof. Perera added.
