A 12 year old schoolgirl from Munkilaaru in Mullaitivu had slipped away from home and made a long journey to Hatton in search of a young man whom she had fallen in love with through social media.
The girl's father told police that she had stolen money and a mobile phone and left a note saying that she would be leaving home and told her parents not to look for her. The girl's father told police today that he contacted her over the phone and came to know that she was in Hatton.
Police said investigations revealed that she had gone to Hatton to meet a young man whom she acquainted through a social media platform.
A senior officer of the Pudukkudiyiruppu police said her father and relatives would go in search of the girl and that the police would give them instructions while conducting investigations. (Romesh Madusanka)
