‘Wana Surakuma’ unit launched to protect Sri Lanka’s forests

Colombo, Nov. 3 (Daily Mirror) - The Ministry of Environment today inaugurated the Wana Surakuma Joint Operations Unit to safeguard the country’s precious natural forests.

The unit, which operates directly under the Ministry, is available 24/7 via hotline 1995 for tips or complaints.

Experts from the Department of Wildlife Conservation, Forest Department, Police Special Task Force (STF), and the Tri-Forces will work together as a single team.

The unit’s main objectives are to monitor forest crimes such as illegal logging, take action to prevent them, educate the public about environmental protection, and disseminate accurate information.
