Two alleged organized crime figures and drug traffickers wanted by Sri Lankan law enforcement were deported from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and arrived at the Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake on last Friday night (12).
According to airport sources, the suspects had been residing in Abu Dhabi when they were arrested by UAE security authorities. It is reported that photos and videos related to drones and missiles allegedly used in attacks linked to the ongoing Middle East conflict were found stored on their mobile phones during investigations.
The suspects were identified as Kapuru Bandarage Don Chathur Dilrukshan, also known as “Modara Nipunage Malli” and “Modara Chathur,” a 25-year-old resident of Modara Mawatha, Colombo 15, and an individual known as “Blumenthal Sankha,” who is also wanted in connection with several criminal investigations in Sri Lanka.
The duo arrived in Sri Lanka on AirAsia flight 3L-708 from Abu Dhabi at approximately 8.58 p.m. on June 13.
Upon arrival, officers attached to the Airport Criminal Investigation Department (CID) took the suspects into custody. Following initial questioning, Chathur Dilrukshan was transferred to the Central Crime Investigation Bureau in Narahenpita for further investigations.
Meanwhile, Blumenthal Sankha remains in the custody of Airport CID officers, where statements are being recorded as part of ongoing investigations.
Authorities said further inquiries are continuing.
