Colombo, June 12 (Daily Mirror) - The Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo has officially launched its 80 kW Mega Batch Solar Energy Project, marking a key step towards institutional sustainability, the Environment Ministry said.
The state-of-the-art solar system, generously donated by the Mega Batch Alumni Group, was inaugurated recently (10th) under the patronage of Deputy Minister of Environment Anton Jayakody.
The project is expected to significantly reduce the faculty’s electricity costs, with savings to be redirected towards teaching, research, and student development initiatives.
The Vice Chancellor of the University of Colombo, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, and Ministry of Environment Secretary K.R. Uduwawala were among those present at the event.
Beyond cost savings, the initiative is seen as a model for environmental sustainability and eco-friendly institutional development.
