Colombo, July 29 (Daily Mirror) - The Coastal Conservation Department is planning to introduce annual fines for unauthorised structures built along the beach, including those that have existed for over 25 years.
The Department's Director General, Dr. Turney Pradeep Kumara told the Daily Mirror that the department is considering an annual permit system for such constructions.
However, he said that illegal structures located directly on the beach are currently being removed.
"The new programme aims to protect and preserve coastal areas by removing unauthorised buildings within the protected beach zone," the Director General said.
