Doctor allegedly pushed wife off Hawaii trail after she refused to take photo with him

HONOLULU (KHNL/Gray News) - A doctor in Hawaii is accused of trying to kill his wife after she allegedly refused to take a picture with him, according to authorities.

According to Honolulu Police, 46-year-old Gerhardt Konig was near the Pali Lookout area with his wife when he attempted to push her off the trail and struck her in the head with a rock.

Authorities said that the victim was assaulted after she allegedly refused to take a picture with Konig.

At some point during the alleged assault, sources said he pulled out two syringes and attempted to poke her with them.

Honolulu Emergency Services said Konig’s wife, 36, suffered multiple facial and head injuries. She was taken to the hospital in serious condition.

Police located Konig near Pali Highway and arrested him after a brief foot pursuit.

Konig was a doctor with the Anesthesia Medical Group and has since been suspended from the medical staff pending investigation.

He was employed by an independent contractor and provided medical services to facilities on Maui, including Maui Memorial Medical Center.

At this time, charges are pending.

@ Gajan , I checked via Google and you are spot on. I also read in the material that in Britain on average one doctor commits suicide every two weeks. How come no one ever informed us about the plight of the doctors in the West .

In Sri Lanka doctors behave as if they are the sons of Gods. That is because the general public has elevated them as their life givers or protectors. Well, it is just another job which they like doing, and which not everyone is mad keen to take on. That is why, elsewhere in the world, doctors are considered as normal human beings, are susceptible to various pressures to the detriment of their own health and welfare. However in this case reported, we cannot simply attribute Konig's behavior to his professional and private pressure or depression. Better to leave the matter to police investigation,
