HONOLULU (KHNL/Gray News) - A doctor in Hawaii is accused of trying to kill his wife after she allegedly refused to take a picture with him, according to authorities.
According to Honolulu Police, 46-year-old Gerhardt Konig was near the Pali Lookout area with his wife when he attempted to push her off the trail and struck her in the head with a rock.
Authorities said that the victim was assaulted after she allegedly refused to take a picture with Konig.
At some point during the alleged assault, sources said he pulled out two syringes and attempted to poke her with them.
Honolulu Emergency Services said Konig’s wife, 36, suffered multiple facial and head injuries. She was taken to the hospital in serious condition.
Police located Konig near Pali Highway and arrested him after a brief foot pursuit.
Konig was a doctor with the Anesthesia Medical Group and has since been suspended from the medical staff pending investigation.
He was employed by an independent contractor and provided medical services to facilities on Maui, including Maui Memorial Medical Center.
At this time, charges are pending.
