Extending its support towards bridging the digital divide, SLT-Mobitel, the national ICT, telecommunications and mobile services provider, facilitated the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka’s (TRCSL) ‘Gamata Sanniwedanaya’ project by commissioning the first 4G tower in Panana, Weligepola, on July 5, 2021.
TRCSL Director General Oshada Senanayake, SLT-Mobitel Group CEO Lalith Seneviratne, Mobitel (Pvt.) Ltd Acting CEO Chandika Vitharana, members of the senior management from SLT-Mobitel and government officials and other dignitaries graced the occasion.
This is the first 4G tower commissioned under the Gamata Sanniwedayana project and it will further improve connectivity for the Sabaragamuba province. A line-up of other locations are being developed under the same initiative as SLT-Mobitel continues with the planning efforts for the other districts under the same scheme with the TRCSL leadership.
Facilitating the infrastructure needs of both private and public sectors, SLT-Mobitel’s partnership with the TRCSL will bring to life the core vision of providing 100 percent 4G LTE connectivity to the nation by facilitating infrastructure requirements to address the digital connectivity challenges faced by rural communities. SLT-Mobitel’s support to the project also drives forward the nation’s efforts towards a digital transformation.
