June.25 (Mirror Sports) - The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has announced a landmark $140 million funding programme that will provide a $10,000 grant to every eligible Olympian competing at the Games.

The new "Fit for the Future Olympian Grant" is designed to support athletes beyond competition and will be available regardless of nationality or finishing position. IOC officials stressed that the initiative is not prize money, but a recognition of the commitment required to become an Olympian.

The programme was approved during the IOC Session in Lausanne and is expected to benefit around 14,000 athletes during each four-year Olympic cycle. Athletes who competed at the Milano-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics will be among the first eligible to apply. - Source: AFP
