A 37-year-old suspect, arrested over an attempted murder, died due to the use of force by the police during a raid in Veyangoda yesterday morning, Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said.
He said the Western Province Crimes Division had arrested the suspect identified as Nishantha Kumarasiri, a resident of Veyangoda in connection with an attempted murder on December 19 this year, in which a 38-year old man was injured.
He said the police conducted a special search operation along with the arrested suspect in the Veyangoda area.
“The suspect had died by the use of force by police during the operation. A police constable (driver) was also injured in the incident and admitted to the Gampaha Base Hospital,” the police spokesman said.
He said the suspect had two pending cases in the Gampaha High Court, a case in the Marawila High Court, and a case in the Gampaha Magistrate’s Court.
