Medical Officers of Health (MOHs) and Public Health Inspectors (PHIs) have been deployed to assist the Police to detect those who moved out of the Western Province before the imposition of the curfew, placing the entire country at risk, the GMOA said.
General Secretary Haritha Aluthge said the Police had launched an operation to detect those who had moved out of the WP and legal action would be taken against them under the Quarantine Act.
“I personally saw several vehicles at the Southern Expressway entrance in Kottawa before the curfew. People still do not understand their responsibility and how they are putting the lives of others at risk. The curfew imposed in the Western Province was a temporary measure to curb the spreading virus,” he said.
Dr. Aluthge said most people had gone on holiday despite requests to remain within the province and the health officers in relevant areas now have to take extra measures to identify these people.
“We always advised the public that in the current situation most of the patients were asymptomatic and the relevant authorities needed time to detect these patients. That was the main reason to impose curfew in the WP,” he said.
