Yoshitha housed in a general ward in Welikada Prison

Yoshitha Rajapaksa, the second son of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa who was arrested on Saturday by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act No. 5 of 2006 has been remanded in a general ward in the Welikada Prison, according to Prisons Spokesman, Prisons Commissioner Gamini B. Dissanayake.  

 Dissanayake stated that the young Rajapaksa has not made any special request after being remanded till today by Colombo Additional Magistrate Pavithra Sanjeevani Pathirana.   

Parliamentarians Namal Rajapaksa and D.V.Chanaka had visited him yesterday at the Welikada Prison.   

Yoshitha Rajapaksa was arrested over a transaction involving a 31.5-perch property in Sirimal Uyana, Ratmalana valued at Rs. 34 million, according to a Police media release.

Investigators allege that the property has been acquired through illicit financial means.
