An Airbus A3330-200, to be added to SriLankan Airlines’ fleet today, is an aircraft which is only a dozen years old and obtained on dry lease as part of re-fleeting efforts, an official said
With the latest addition, the fleet will increase to 23, according to SriLankan Airlines’ chairman Sarath Ganegoda. Dry lease is an arrangement covering the hire of an aircraft which does not include the provision of a flight crew.
The new addition, a wide–body aircraft, is set to touch down in Sri Lanka today, but not before treating plane spotters to a low fly-past over Colombo and Katunayake, according to a statement from the national carrier.
The aircraft, arriving from France, will fly at an altitude of 1,500 feet along the Colombo shoreline, visible from the southern end of Port City to Moratuwa, before returning to land at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA). An additional fly-past over BIA will take place just before landing. This is an exciting opportunity for aviation enthusiasts and plane spotters to catch a first glimpse of the aircraft that will strengthen SriLankan Airlines’ fleet and support its long-haul and short-haul operations, connecting Sri Lanka to the world, the airline said.
