The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) working committee today approved a proposal to begin a dialogue with the United National Party (UNP) , SJB General Secretary Ranjith Madduma Bandara said.
“The decision made by the party’s management committee was approved by the working committee,” Madduma Bandara told Daily mirror.
Madduma Bandara said the committee decided to appoint a five member committee which include himself and Kabir Hashim to confer with the UNP.
SJB Spokesman S.M Marikar announced on Wednesday that the party plans to talk with a number of parties to form a grand right wing alliance. “The SJB commands 40 seats in Parliament. It is the largest party in opposition and therefore any common alliance should be formed based on this fact,” he told media.
Meanwhile Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe announced that UNP Deputy Leader Ruwan Wijewardene and General Secretary Talatha Athukorala will talk to SJBers to form a common front.
