The five member CID team who have travelled to London to determine the authenticity of the invitation received by former President Ranil Wickremesinghe from University of Wolverhampton is slated to spend more than the latter for his tour to the UK, an Opposition MP told Parliament yesterday.

“The former President has spent only Rs 16 million for his tour in the UK but the five member CID team is bound to spent more than Rs 36 million. “ An air ticket to London costs more than 300,000,” MP Chamara Sampath Dassanayake said.

“This is an unbelievable situation,” he said.

Also the MP came up with scams in the police and thus revealed that a police officer named Mohammed Najib has been promoted as HQI Kilinochchi for looking after the estate belonging to the police chief,” the MP said.

The MP revealed that the Police Commission is being controlled by a lady named Niranjala who happens to be the Director General of the Commission. “Some 4,000 files with various complaints are held by this officer. Majority of these files belong to some police officers who are about to retire.

They are not able to claim their pensions until these files are attended to and investigations are completed,” he said.
