‘Podi Lassie’ to be brought back from India

• Indian police has informed Sri Lankan authorities that ‘Podi Lassie’ has been arrested in India

Sri Lanka Police said they would take steps to bring back underworld figure Arumahandi Janith Madushanka Silva, alias ‘Podi Lassie’ who was arrested in India. Police spokesman Buddhika Manathunga said Indian police has informed Sri Lankan authorities that ‘Podi Lassie’ has been arrested in India.    

‘Podi Lassie’, who had been in remand custody, was released on bail by the Balapitiya Magistrate on December 9, 2024.   

The Magistrate imposed a travel ban on the suspect until the next court date.  

However, ‘Podi Lassie’ violated his bail conditions and fled the country.   Upon receiving information that he was in India, the Acting IGP sought assistance from Indian authorities to arrest the suspect.   

Accordingly, SSP Manathunga said that the suspect was arrested in India and the Police will bring the suspect back to Sri Lanka.
