The sail training ship INS Tarangini of the Indian Navy arrived at the Port of Colombo on Friday after completing an ocean-sailing training passage with trainee officers from the Sri Lanka Navy.
The vessel had earlier called at the Port of Trincomalee on March 1, where Sri Lankan trainee officers were embarked for practical seamanship training at sea. The training programme provided the officers with hands-on experience in navigation, sailing techniques and maritime operations during the voyage.
Naval officials said the joint sailing exercise forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen professional exchanges and enhance cooperation between the navies of India and Sri Lanka.
They noted that such collaborative training initiatives play an important role in improving operational understanding and strengthening maritime partnership between the two neighbouring countries.
INS Tarangini is a 54-metre-long vessel crewed by 36 personnel and is commanded by Nitin Gajjar. The ship departed Sri Lanka as scheduled on March 8.
