Expect more rains as Northeast Monsoon becomes active: DMC

Enhancement of rainy weather is expected in the coming days as the Northeast Monsoon could become more active, Disaster Management Centre (DMC) which quoted Department of Meteorology said yesterday. 

DMC Director Pradeep Kodippili said rains could enhance during the coming days. 

The highest rainfall of 73.8mm was recorded from Ampara, a rainfall of 50mm was recorded from Kalmunai, 29.7mm from Batticaloa, and 30mm from Elahera. The Department of Meteorology foretasted more than 50mm of rain in the Uva Province, Ampara, Batticaloa, Nuwara Eliya and Matale during the coming days. Meanwhile, some 267,000 people belonging to 76,801 families still remain displaced by the Cyclone Ditwah. Some 34,175 persons belonging to 10,340 families were still placed in 358 temporary camps as per the DMC data.
