A baby elephant had been knocked down and killed at Kasikote in Ambanpola on the Anuradhapura–Kurunegala road in the early hours of yesterday morning.

Wildlife officers said the calf was about three years of age and that it had been knocked down by a lorry when crossing the road. They said warning signs  cautioning drivers of elephant crossings are installed at that location.

Wildlife officers of the Galgamuwa wildlife range are conducting investigations.
