The Department of Motor Traffic said that by February 28, all temporary driving licenses currently issued will be replaced with official license cards for all eligible drivers.
According to the Commissioner General of Motor Traffic Kamal Amarasinghe, at least 800,000 license cards have been received for the issuance of driving licenses, and 240,000 licenses have already been printed and are currently being distributed.
Due to a previous shortage of license cards, around 450,000 individuals were issued temporary licenses. As of Saturday (03), 240,000 permanent licenses have been printed, and the remaining 210,000 will be printed and distributed before the February 28 deadline. Amarasinghe added that on average, 60,000 to 80,000 new driving licenses are printed each month, and with the new supply of license cards, a shortage is unlikely to occur again.
