In the aftermath of the suicide incident involving 15-year old Dilshi Amshika from Kotahena, the government had taken certain steps in response to the public outcry that followed. The Cabinet nod to establish a multi-sectoral caucus to take swift actions against complaints of child abuse cases is a notable step. Speaking to the Daily Mirror, Deputy Minister of Women and Child Affairs Dr. Namal Sudarshana said that all parties involved in the protection of children within the state mechanism will be part of this caucus. “With this mechanism we will look at enforcing the law against perpetrators,” he added.
