The Advanced Level Examination answer script evaluation centre at Dharmapala Vidyalaya in Pannipitiya has been temporarily closed for three days from Wednesday by the Examinations Commissioner General due to teachers arriving for the paper marking process in attire other than sarees.

The teachers who were engaged in paper marking activities during the holidays when the school was closed were allowed to come to the centre in attire of their choice  and the principal had informed them that they must come wearing saree on school days.

Mr. Jayasundara also said that the school principal had sent him a letter explaining that the teachers who are assigned to evaluate answer sheets should come in accordance with the culture.  However, the teachers had come for paper marking activities wearing different attire other than saree on Wednesday. He also mentioned that some of the teachers who had come in different attire had forcibly entered the school despite the security officers’ protest, leading him to suspend the operation at the centre, he said.

However, he also stated that if the teachers who were engaged in the answer sheets return to duty today in saree, the centre’s activities will resume as normal.
