World Cup 2026: Spain win the World Cup again

July.20 (Mirror Sports) - Spain have been crowned world champions for the second time after beating defending champions Argentina 1-0 after extra time in a gripping FIFA World Cup 2026 final at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

Ferran Torres scored the decisive goal in the 105th minute to give Spain their first World Cup title since 2010 and complete a historic Euro 2024-World Cup 2026 double.

The final was tightly contested, with both teams creating chances but being frustrated by Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez and Spain's Unai Simón.

Spain finally broke the deadlock in extra time when Nico Williams' intelligent header found Torres in space, allowing the forward to fire a clinical finish past Martínez.

The victory caps a remarkable era for Luis de la Fuente's Spain, who have followed their European Championship triumph with the biggest prize in world football.

Argentina's bid to become the first nation since Brazil in 1962 to win back-to-back World Cups ended in defeat, while Lionel Messi's hopes of claiming a second World Cup title were also ended.
