Irankunda Makes Socceroos History at World Cup

June.14 (Mirror Sports) - Nestory Irankunda continued his remarkable rise by becoming the youngest Socceroos player to score at a FIFA World Cup. The 20-year-old Watford forward opened the scoring in Australia's 2-0 victory over Turkey in Vancouver, writing his name into Australian football history.

Born in Tanzania before settling in Australia as a refugee, Irankunda's journey has become one of the standout stories of the tournament. Alongside fellow former refugee Mohamed Touré, 22, he represents a new generation of Australian talent aiming to make its mark on football's biggest stage.

                                        Ben Doak Steals Spotlight in Scotland's World Cup Return

Scotland marked their return to the FIFA World Cup with a 1-0 victory over Haiti at Boston Stadium, courtesy of a 28th-minute goal from captain John McGinn.

While McGinn secured the win, 20-year-old winger Ben Doak was the standout performer. His pace, energy and determination caused problems for Haiti throughout the match and inspired Scotland's attack.

Doak's passion was best illustrated in the second half when he celebrated winning a goal-kick as if he had scored, lifting the Tartan Army and helping Scotland begin their World Cup campaign on a winning note.

 

                                      FIFA to Pay Somali Referee Omar Artan Despite World Cup Ban

Somali referee Omar Artan, who was denied entry to the United States ahead of the World Cup after 11 hours of questioning by immigration officials, will still receive his full tournament fee from FIFA. 

Artan was reportedly refused entry over alleged security concerns, which he denies. Although he will not take part in the tournament, FIFA has confirmed he will be paid as planned for his selection.
