President Ranil Wickremesinghe outlined the need of controlling or curbing the usage of social media, which he compared to as an uncontrollable threat to the society and any country.
He made this statement at the launch of senior journalist Edmund Ranasinghe's latest book 'Edmundge Patthara Viplawaya' (Edmund's Newspaper Revolution) at President's Office in Colombo on Tuesday (03).
"Social media has become a threat to the mainstream media, in particular newspapers, as there are no laws or restrictions to control its usage or contents, because the users are of the view that there are no boundaries," President Wickremesinghe said gracing the event of veteran journalist Ranasinghe, the founder editor and Director Editorial of Sinhala daily 'Divaina'.
