Repeated reports claiming that there is water leakage at the Victoria Dam due to cracks and tremors have been proven false, State Minister Shashendra Rajapaksa told Parliament today.
The State Minister who responded to an oral question by MP Wasanth Yapa Bandara in the House said investigations have confirmed that there are no cracks on the dam and therefore, there are no leakages of water.
Meanwhile, MP Yapa Bandara alleged that there is a conflict of interest on the part of a Director of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) who is in the committee which decides on the generation of hydropower.
“This engineer is among those who demand water for cultivation. Therefore, there is a conflict of interest on the part of this officer. There is mismanagement of water because of his actions,” the MP alleged.
In response, the State Minister assured an investigation into the matter will be carried out and if there has been a conflict of interest on the part of the said engineer proper action will be taken.
