The medical team attending to 'Maharagama Seetha', the tamed elephant who was mistaken for a wild creature, has detected a powder form of iron near the eight wounds caused by gunshots.
The medical team, led by Professor Ashoka Dangolla, discovered these particles using metal detectors after the failure of the thermal imaging, scan and xray tests, in a series of examinations and a surgery conducted to provide the findings to the court.
Maharagama Seetha was shot eight times by a Civil Defence Department member attached to the Wildlife Department few days ago after mistakingly identifying the elephant brought down to Mahiyangana for the Asala Pageant, as a wild animal.
