While stating that she personally does not take vaccinations, State Minister of Women and Child Affairs Geetha Kumarasinghe said that parents must vaccinate their children. "Vaccinations offer protection against disease," she said.
A committee has been appointed to probe into the recently reported deaths of an infant and a young woman the State Minister said.
The Minister also said that she does not know if substandard drugs are imported to the country. "The President as the Cabinet Minister for Women and Child Affairs will inquire into this," she said.
Asked if the Health Minister will tender his resignation, Minister Kumarasinghe said that she is not in agreement with the demand. "His faults should be first identified and proved. The Minister can't check the injections individually. Medical authorities must take responsibility for this," she said.
