Religious leaders protest

Religious leaders today warned that they would be compelled to take to the streets on the day when Parliament takes up the debate on new regulations under Strategic Development Act under which tax holidays were to be given to casino projects.

They were addressing a news conference at the Abayarama Temple, Narahenpita.

Venerable Kotugoda Dhammawansa Thera told that they would be compelled to take to the streets and carry out a house to house campaign against the setting up of casinos in the country when Parliament took up the proposed regulations for debate.

He said the religious leaders also intend to meet the MPs to make requests to vote against the setting up of casinos.  Pix by Kushan Pathiraja
