A ceremony was held yesterday (25) at Milliton Estate, Talawakele, to welcome Viknaraj Vakshan (28), who won a gold medal for Sri Lanka in the cross-country event at the South Asian Athletics Championships in Islamabad, Pakistan.

Vakshan was born into a family of plantation workers, He serves in the Sri Lanka Army's Sports Unit and recently brought glory to the country by winning the 10K long-distance event in 38 minutes and 56 seconds at the South Asian Athletics Festival in Islamabad, Pakistan.
