Crop damage by recent floods. There have been floods for centuries so it is nothing new. Could it be the diesel price hike that contributed to this since the it would cost more to transport vegetables?

I always love visiting vegetable markets in Sri Lanka. They keep them as clean as possible compared to some other countries, especially India.

Simple capitalism in action. Supply and demand. Supply is strangled by the rain and floods. SL has no facilities for keeping fresh produce stored for such events. That is the responsibility of the traders. Does any person want to go the Karl Marx way?
