The Inter University Students' Union held a protest marching from Borella where police fired water cannons at them. The students then entered the premises of the National Hospital Colombo and continued their picketing. Pix by Pradeep Pathirana

These strikes, protests and disruption to university education will restrict the future of many students who are eager to be professionals. Sri lanka is the only country which is experiencing continuous student unrest. What a shame!
Ranjan Thursday, 07 March 2024 03:12 AM
I fully agree with Sobers. Very sad to see how this will affect our present generations students studies. Are their continuous strikes by the students in other countries ? and the answer is no. During our time in 70s how peaceful it was and we had continues education without any interruptions. I feel sorry for our university students

Strict laws ,respect ,unity , and discipline must be taught from childhood . when the foundation is weak, we can’t expect good people and leaders in the future . Today’s thugs in the parliament were yesterday students and today’s students are tomorrow leaders . Those who were involved in such protests and things must banned from free university education and sacked immediately .This may sound harsh but this is the way to stop un involved minds from undesirable actions and tame them. Also they must be taught mindfulness ,religious harmony and meditation as a subject

When will they learn the skills to do any productive job. After years of protests, they pass out barely and expect government jobs, and once they get the job, all what they do is trade union action, slow work, no work, asking for more , etc, etc. These are the 100% NPP guys.

If you guys have an atom.of intelligence, you guys should study, not behave like this! Study, complete your degrees, and then contest elections!! We need youth to govern now. But nobody will vote for you, not even a kid, nor support any of the parties you represent when they see your rowdy behaviour! Shame on the country's youth!
Navi Wednesday, 06 March 2024 09:28 PM
Our future generation of Intellectuals behaving like HOOLIGANS. Future of Country ruled by Hooligans??? God help SL.

This is the cream of educated group in future.
Tissa Fernando Wednesday, 06 March 2024 11:54 PM
No, the cream is actually doing the studies using their own money at paying universities. These are the freebies who just happened to get selected to the universities based on preferential low mark systems. These guys are controlled by NPP
Concerned Thursday, 07 March 2024 08:52 AM
The sour cream of education!! Some of the protesters don’t look university students a waste of tax payers money
Mybi5@gmail.com Thursday, 07 March 2024 12:53 AM
Govt should stop paying for their education
Chris Thursday, 07 March 2024 05:28 AM
The waste of tax payer's money in all these pics. Stop free education. Only country in the world experiencing violent student unrest mainly carried out by violent political groups within the university. The jvp is solely responsible for the chaos and this is what filters to all sectors. Shame on the monks.
They waste their parents money to please political masters Thursday, 07 March 2024 06:31 AM
These are the faces of parasites of our society who are misled by JVP and selfish union leaders. It is very difficult to imagine, these fellows will give productive service to this nation. It is this type of students, who end up as road sweepers and pot washers, some of whom I met in the middle east.
Amaran Thursday, 07 March 2024 06:31 AM
These kind of Uni students are giving a NEGATIVE impression about our society to the world. There is a danger that our qualifications will NOT be recognised in the global market for employment. I cannot understand who is behind on these unrest. Ragging another menace. TAX MONEY is thus wasted. Students Union should be BANNED forever,
Adwani Thursday, 07 March 2024 07:55 AM
When one look at the faces of those protestors, one cannot say that those are students. Those guys look like from 'No Proper Planning' political party.
Vive James Thursday, 07 March 2024 08:02 AM
Unleash the military and wipe out this unrest
sunil Thursday, 07 March 2024 09:23 AM
