Sydney Avurudu ceremony

A colourful Aluth Avurudu celebration was held in Sydney this week, organised by the Sri Lanka Cultural Association to mark the Sinhala and Tamil New Year, drawing a large number of Sri Lankans living in Australia.

The event featured a range of traditional New Year games and festivities, with the highlight being the Avurudu beauty pageant. Sheha Seneviratne was crowned Avurudu Kumariya (beauty queen), while Dayan Gunathilaka won the title of Avurudu Kumara in the male category.
