It is embarrassing that this is the state of the Central Bus Stand in our Capital. In every other country, the main transportation Hub has been developed so well that they literally have Malls and Shopping Centres built around them. Maybe time for SLTB to start regulating Public Transport instead of running busses. They can barely earn enough to keep the existing fleet running, so how can they develop/maintain the main public transport hubs in each province?

Unless we turn the clock to Premadasa era where no one know when the big shot will turn up and skin them alive this country has zero chance of progress. More of these on the spot inspections and clean up of the past mess is a must.
Also ensure that public transport Buses, Trains are kept washed and clean as a pride of the nation.

The whole Pettah bus stand needs a restructuring and repair job. Hope qualified people will be put on the job. Who loves the country and wants to make it a beautiful place. Now the state of the bus stand is that of a neglected abalusion.

can you expect such thing by MR and co or Ranil and co. Let us set example by leaders first and foremost. It is better to do this first. first of all, Let them clean the place of work, let them check all to know and get first hand knowledge.

Did Clean Sri Lanka miss the bus stand? Look at the garbage everywhere. I remember seeing a media show about cleaning in progress couple of days ago at this place, was it part of the teledrama episode?

you can carpet the roads, paint the walls, add all good infrastructure, but what good if society cannot adjust accordingly, all these people dump garbage, oil leaks from busses, garbage juices flowing all over, people spit and pee in public space, these have to be changed mentally, unfortunaly need few generations to pass over, then all shall be clean and society should adjust hopefully

Just going and sighting the place with lots of photographs taken is insufficient, we await your action

Will these visits result in corrective actions? Friday, 31 January 2025 08:48 AM
During last seven decades, Ministers and deputies had no time nor a need to visit these places. They were using their official vehicles to move around. Only exceptions were Dahanayake who travelled by bus and U.B.Wanninayake -Finance Minister who travelled by train on week-end to go home in Maho. If these visits result in any action to improve, we can rest assured that these visits are not for publicity stunts.

This is what any minister with commonsense would do and, what the public have been clamouring for. Unless the problems are seen and experienced first hand they cannot be rectified. The Minister should also drive behind one of his buses and inhale deeply. It's invigorating.

Any minister with both Common Sense AND GOOD INTENTIONS will do the same thing without the cameras behind them, then they will do corrective actions clean it up and then get the cameras to show what they have achieved. This is a devious act of deceiving the people. All you need is the Cleaning units (CMC) to do their job and allocate money to the SLTB to repair and paint the building. Simultaneously get the now defunct Environmental Police unit (GR era initiative) to re activate themselves. If such simple low level tasks are now been handled by a minister. This is a failure in management. The very voters who vote governments in are the people who ultimatley destroy this nations beauty as well.

Just look at the garbage strewn all over. If there is no garbage collection facilities, take your garbage home and dispose of it thoughtfully. The place must be gutted and re-built from scratch.

Upgrade both the ctb and private bus stands to modern standards similar to facilities like in southern expressway service area or airport. Look how dirty and with very bad shop stalls and wash room facilities. Upgrade to make it at least help tourism as we get large number of budget tourists.

There was once a progarmme to revive the entire Pettah bust stand and railway station on the lines of the ongoing Kandy Multimodal Transport Centre. What happened to that project which was to be funded by the ADB

This is just Drama... So these NPPers also have not used public places or services. They spent 50 years protesting and not letting anything getting done in SL. They could have done something using the times they worked against their own country. Now they have become contrymen, forgetting the unaccountable damage caused to us as a country and society.
Having said that, we all know the tremendous work Gota did keeping the City clean was not second to Premadasa.
But see the sataus of all the places now. Can we police daily , No. So it's the people, Mentality and Attitude of people that needs change to keep our country and public places clean. Look at most of the houses. 80% of Sri Lankans keep their house like a Junk Yard.. Then what are you talking of Publice Places , Property and Services.
It's the people who need to change first if we are to move towards cleaner society.

Juts visiting once for a photo opportunity does no good to anyone- neither the people or the Govt.
Now that the short comings are identified, can the Minister make a monthly visit to check on the progress

I hope people in the power realize the status of public transport in the country. This bus stand is one of the worst place maintained in the country. This bus stand accommodate many thousand travelers, both local and foreign, but one of the disgusting place you can go to. Please make it a place which is clean and tidy, safe for women and solo travelers, free of stray animals etc.
