The Civil Society Alliance for Malaiyaha Reform today celebrated Thai Pongal at Liberty Roundabout in Kollupitiya, Colombo, to raise awareness among the government that the Malaiyaha community has been the backbone of the country’s economy for over two hundred years. Despite shedding blood and sweat while cultivating tea, the community continues to struggle for basic rights, including ownership of even a small plot of land and a single home.
