Install intelligent traffic radar cameras like those in Dubai to capture all kinds of traffic violations and penalise those who break them. That is the only language Sri Lankans understand.

There is no sense in promoting Seat Belt awareness. It is mandatory that seat belts are worn till end of journey. Failure to do so will end up in major fine and warning. Why do Sri Lankans need to be mollycoddled in many ways of life ???????????

These people are wasting their time, money and energy. Once there is a law published in all three languages, citizens have to follow. Spot fines and punish those who try to be smart by not wearing the seat belt front and back seats.That is the only lesson that will train the driver and passengers to wear seat belts.

Soon they will run an awareness program on breathing also. Most of the vehicles don't even have functional seatbelts yet they pass all the government inspections required to insure and put the vehicle on the road. Just wasting tax payer money for a pamphlet that will be thrown away or used to store betel leaves. And as another commenter said, Sri Lankans only understand enforcement via fines.

The official must show that there working. First educate the police. Few TV advertisements will solve this problem. Who is this Marla Brandon in dark glasses. What a waist of money. The minister for transport please study how the other countries have done it.

Awareness programmes cost money and are pointless. Penalties, on the other hand, bring in money. For Sri Lankans, this is the only reason to comply with existing laws. Furthermore, the seat belt law should apply on all roads. Whether you have an accident at 80 km/h or 100 km/h without a seat belt, the result is the same: death.

What can we say when the government is trying to make a Big Pada show of something futile because there are laws and anyone who flouts it will have to pay the price. How much of human resources and money that has to be expended on this promotion which could have been better utilized to get these damsels welcome the tourists who come into this country which will derive some benefit. Whilst there are pressing problems of farmers not receiving the nutrients on time, undergraduate employment . human-elephant conflict, village level unrest due to lands being taken over etc. Since there is an inflow of funds to the country it is management of these funds which is important and priority given to the neglected sectors instead of some rubbish circulating!!!!!
