The official event to mark the beginning of the 2024 school meal programme was held today (25) at the Sujatha Girls' College in Narahenpita under the patronage of President Ranil Wickremesinghe and with the participation of Education Minister Susil Premajayantha.

Eligiblity for meal should based on parents tax card. Otherwise this will be another alms giving at groceries road. We should take care the needy children in country than playing the wild card. Most of the popular rich schools have over capacity but at poor peoples schools have only few kids.

What else is going to be free in this country? Hotel charge after honeymoon? Children are a liability of parents. Feeding them is their job. Giving everything free is not the solution to the prevailing economic downturn. Encourage people to work hard instead of depending on the government.

I experienced a program of giving breakfast to kids whose parents had no time to give them one for what ever reason ..it was so discreet at the tuck shop ..Giving free school meals happens in the first world too , yes even in US ..its part of the school program to nurture the students for a academic program ..Wonder why the publicity ?
