The High Commission of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan in Sri Lanka, together with the Pakistani community, celebrated the 86th National Day of Pakistan with traditional fervour at the Pakistan High Commission on March 23, 2026. Acting High Commissioner Zunaira Latif unfurled the Pakistani flag to the tune of the national anthem during the ceremony.
Pakistan National Day is commemorated annually on March 23 in remembrance of the historic Lahore Resolution of 1940, which called for a separate homeland for Muslims of the subcontinent and eventually led to the creation of Pakistan on August 14, 1947.
Messages from the President and the Prime Minister of Pakistan were read out, paying tribute to Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and highlighting the significance of the day. In her address, the Acting High Commissioner said Pakistan and Sri Lanka continue to enjoy close and mutually beneficial relations built on trust and respect, with cooperation spanning trade, defence, education, culture and science, while extending greetings to the Government and people of Sri Lanka on behalf of Pakistan.
