The Education Ministry today launched the first "Mindfulness" programme for this year for schoolchildren at the Dharmapala Vidyalaya in Pannipitiya with the participation of Education Minister Susil Premajayantha.
By conducting this programme in schools, children will be trained to focus their minds on a single goal.

The program is really good but how many parents practice them. The innocent children follow the parents behavior. To start with, the parents should set an example to the children not only at the worship places.

School are there to learn. This spiritual learning has to be taught in damma schools. Don't spoil the learning time of children with this adult behaviour. They are children and they need to learn and play not for this . Useless attempts make worthless children. We are still behind religion and race dragging our selves down

Man, this is nothing do with any religion or race or whatever. This is also is part of learning. The mindfulness is important to everything. In particular, considering the busy study schedule nowadays the children engage with. Better do some reading about it as home work and then comment.

These new age "mindfulness" activities are more dangerous than anyone can imagine. It can attract the demonic. Please teach children discipline and values rather than messing with their mind.

It doesn't matter who did this, this is a great thing. I have seen people in some developed countries have good mindfulness and mental strength. Even Sri Lankan who meditate in a monestry can take many months to come to their level of mental strength. I wonder how this happen. May be foods affects mental strength also maybe Education system, economic stability or Social habits affecting. After defeated by Pruthugisi, Landesi and British maybe Sri Lankans mental strength became lower. If all Sri Lankan students do mindfulness meditation now, in the next generation Sri Lankans mental strength may be like in a developed country. We have great tools and knowledge than other countries but don't use. One example I could found. "..In the US military, there has been growing interest in the potential benefits of mindfulness meditation, such as promoting attention and concentration, emotion regulation, impulse control, decisionmaking, morale, productivity, and other outcomes associate.. Mindfulness is the most precious gift that can be given to our children. A mindful child lives happily and wisely. The practice of Mindfulness helps to develop resilience in a child’s mind. This is the turning point of the Education System in Sri Lanka. Let this program spread in Schools of all religions, Dhamma schools, and eventually in all education sectors.

I'm a teacher in Sri Lankan school system and I also had the opportunity to work in North America. The School Boards have Introduced Mindfulness practices for teachers and the students. The teachers have witnessed a great deal of improvement in students' classroom behaviors, concentration and their problem solving skills. The teachers here will appreciate if the Education Ministry expands this program to private schools as well where teachers struggle with classroom issues such as deciplinary, addiction and bulling which takes up a considerable amount of time of a teacher.
