The Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), General Upendra Dwivedi, accompanied by a delegation, paid an official visit to the Sri Lanka Army Headquarters today.
Upon arrival, General Dwivedi was received by the Commander of the Sri Lanka Army, Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo, and was accorded a guard of honour by Army troops in keeping with military tradition.
A cordial meeting was subsequently held between the two Army Commanders. At the conclusion of the meeting, an agreement was signed for the construction of the Indo–Lanka Sports Complex, proposed to be built at the Army College, Buttala, with Indian assistance.
During the visit, the Indian Army Commander also participated in a ceremony organised to recognise the dedicated service of members of the Sri Lanka Army Response Team who contributed significantly during recent disaster situations in the country. This was followed by the official handover of 20 vehicles, training simulators and two ambulances to the Sri Lanka Army. The occasion also served to reaffirm the close personal friendship between the Chiefs of Staff of the two countries.
The event was attended by a large number of senior Army officers, officers and other ranks.
