Demonstrating a gesture of solidarity and inclusiveness, Sri Lankan High Commissioner to Kenya, Kana Kananathan, hosted an Iftar ceremony followed by a lavish dinner for the Sri Lankan Muslim community residing in Kenya. This auspicious event was held yesterday evening.
The Iftar dinner unfolded amidst the plush ambiance of a posh restaurant nestled in Nairobi's suburban expanse, providing an elegant backdrop for the gathering.
Attended by distinguished figures, including General Shavendra Silva, the Chief of Defense Staff of Sri Lanka presently on an official visit to Kenya, the occasion exemplified the significance of community engagement and cultural interchange. General Silva's presence underscored the government's commitment to embracing diversity and fortifying ties with its overseas citizens.
The High Commissioner's proactive initiative garnered praise from community members, who viewed it as a tangible symbol of the Sri Lankan government's dedication to the welfare and cultural enrichment of its expatriates.
General Shavendra Silva and Kana Kananathan have restated Sri Lanka's fundamental principles of inclusiveness, acceptance, and solidarity, which are integral to the nation's identity.
Closure and Downsizing Embassies to Save Cost Thursday, 28 March 2024 11:18 AM
The way the SL diplomatic corps reflects SL is country having sufficient funds. But they seek internationally for funds in a begging bowl to assist in the elimination of poverty back home. Hope the new government will remove most of these embassies especially in 3rd world countries and downsize those in expensive countries. These ambassadors can be station back in the Ministry of Foreign affairs building in Colombo and go about in their duties via zoom technology, social media etc. This will definitely have a huge savings for the government expenses on vehicles / lodging and salaries of support staff of these embassies.

This particular Sri Lankan Ambassador in Kenya is trying to run his own show at the tax payers expenses ever since he was appointed . We are a poor country and people are going hungry, this “ ego maniac” should be recalled immediately from Kenya and replaced with some one “ normal”

Why Lavish Dinner ? Whilst so many Sri Lankans are suffering with no means to eat their basic food. Besides they should all know that the main aim for the Ramadhan fasting is to understand ad help the plight of the needy and NOT TO BE FEASTING with the rish who already have their belly full of food. Ideally they should have fed some poor families or orphanages - that would have been beneficial! PLEASE don't waste the poor man's tax money
